The tribes of the Trypillian culture lived in settlements built of wood and clay and located mainly in one or more concentrated circles. Giant settlements with an area of 150 to 450 hectares, which had more than 2 thousand inhabitants, are known. It was in the Cherkasy region that the Trypillian culture left the largest number of giant settlements. On the basis of the discovered Trypillian settlement „Talyanka“ with a total area of over 450 hectares, on which, according to geomagnetic survey data, there were from 1,500 to 28,000 buildings, the State Historical and Cultural Reserve „Trypillian Culture“ was created. The reserve currently includes 11 settlements of giants of the Trypillian culture, located in the Uman, Talniv, Zvenyhorod districts of the Cherkasy region, with a total area of over 2 thousand hectares. All of them were once fenced with ramparts. Settlements with such areas, a huge, for that time, number of their population, which knew highly developed agriculture, bring „Trypillya“ to the level of the origin of the most ancient centers of human civilization and an extremely interesting object for modern archaeological research. The interest of scientists in the Trypillya culture could not go unnoticed by that part of the population that is not indifferent to the past of our Motherland and the Prehistory of all mankind.
In the village of Legedzene, the reserve houses the Museum of Trypillian Culture, dedicated to ancient megacities. The highlight of the museum is a life-size reconstructed two-story Trypillian dwelling filled with Trypillian utensils, sacred objects, household items, and tools. The museum exhibits: utensils and their fragments; tools made of bones and stones; clay figurines of animals and people that are over 5,000 years old; arrowheads. The reserve’s scientific funds consist of over 10,000 items from 46 settlements. Visitors to the reserve can: go on excursions; live in the homes of Trypillians; see the process of making ceramic products and the features of Trypillian painting; take part in archaeological excavations; help recreate Trypillian dwellings; taste delicious food cooked on fire according to ancient recipes. Every summer, various cultural and historical festivals are held on the territory of the reserve, primarily the traditional „Trypil’ski Toloki“.
