The Holy Protection Krasnohirska Convent is one of the oldest Orthodox monasteries in Ukraine. Founded in the 17th century as a male monastery, it is said to have been established by a hermit monk from Constantinople on land granted by a Cossack noble. The earliest churches were wooden, including one dedicated to Saint George. Between 1767 and 1771, a stone Transfiguration Cathedral was built in the Ukrainian Baroque style, designed by architect Ivan Hryhorovych-Barskyi. In 1790, the monastery was converted into a convent and populated with nuns transferred from Kyiv.

Its main sacred object is the miraculous icon of the Dubenska Mother of God (1864), which, according to legend, appeared on an oak tree. The monastery grounds also feature a spring with healing water and a baptismal pool that attracts many pilgrims. The convent was closed twice – in 1786 and 1922. It was restored in 1941. Today, around 100 sisters live here, and the convent remains a significant spiritual center.
