In 1858, Alexander Abaza — a prominent statesman and Finance Minister of the Russian Empire – purchased land near Shpola. Two kilometers west of the town, he built a two-storey stone-brick palace in Neoclassical style with modernist features. One of its highlights is a veranda supported by ten cast-iron columns, forged at imperial foundries. Each bears a decorative „A“ monogram. The palace stood at the heart of a large landscape park.

Its engineering was exceptional for the mid-19th century: it included running water, sewage systems, and gas lighting. The construction used granite, marble, and lead. Abaza gifted the palace to his daughter Paraskeva as a wedding present upon her marriage to Count Urusov. Today, it is recognized as one of the most valuable examples of 19th-century architecture in the Cherkasy region and is in need of restoration.
