Золотоніський район розташований у північно-східній частині Черкаської області, займаючи частину Придніпровської низовини. Загальна площа району становить 4246 км². Територію краю перетинають річки Золотоношка, Кропивна, Супій, Сула та Чумгак, що належать до басейну Дніпра.
Економічне багатство регіону ґрунтується на родючих чорноземах та значних лісових ресурсах. Історично край розвивався як потужний осередок сільського господарства з переважанням козацького населення. Разом із аграрним сектором на Золотоніщині ще з XIX століття розбудовувалась промисловість, зокрема спиртова, борошномельна та текстильна галузі. Важливим етапом розвитку стало відкриття залізничного сполучення наприкінці XIX — на початку XX століття, що значно посилило торговельні зв’язки району з іншими регіонами.
Край став однією з колисок українського козацтва, а його жителі брали активну участь у визвольних змаганнях та битвах Визвольної війни під проводом Богдана Хмельницького. Золотоніщина подарувала Україні багатьох видатних діячів: тут народилися вчений Михайло Максимович, відомий борець Іван Піддубний. Багата культурна та духовна спадщина регіону зберігається в численних археологічних пам’ятках та історичних місцях козацької слави.
Zolotonosha district is located in the northeastern part of the Cherkasy region, occupying a part of the Dnieper Lowland. The total area of the district is 4,246 km². The territory of the region is crossed by the Zolotonoshka, Kropyvna, Supiy, Sula, and Chumhak rivers, which belong to the Dnieper basin.
The economic wealth of the region is based on fertile chernozems and significant forest resources. Historically, the region developed as a powerful center of agriculture with a predominant Cossack population. Along with the agricultural sector, industry has been developing in the Zolotonosha region since the 19th century, in particular the alcohol, flour-milling, and textile industries. An important stage of development was the opening of the railway connection in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which significantly strengthened the trade links of the district with other regions.
The region became one of the cradles of the Ukrainian Cossacks, and its residents took an active part in the liberation struggles and battles of the War of Independence led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky. The Zolotonosha region gave Ukraine many prominent figures: the scientist Mykhailo Maksymovych and the famous wrestler Ivan Piddubnyi were born here. The rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the region is preserved in numerous archaeological monuments and historical sites of Cossack glory.
