Soborna Square in Cherkasy was established in 1879. Saint Nicholas Cathedral once stood here, built in 1864 and consecrated on December 19 by the Metropolitan of Kyiv, Arseniy. The cathedral was made of stone, had three wooden domes and a large central cupola; a pseudo-Gothic bell tower stood nearby. It also included a city cemetery as part of a complex with the Church of the Assumption and St. George Church. Around the cathedral were trade rows, warehouses, and private houses of wealthy citizens, making the square a center of commerce and social life in the 19th century. In 1931, the domes were removed, and the building was repurposed for utilitarian needs. The cathedral was demolished in 1945.

Soborna Square has changed its name eight times throughout history, one of the city’s records for renaming. At different times, it was called „Bazaar“, „Soborno-Mykolaivska“, „Central“, and „Lenin Square“. In 2010, its historical name „Soborna“ was restored. During the Soviet period, a monument to Vladimir Lenin stood here, which was removed in 2008. Today, no buildings are registered at Soborna Square. It features flower beds and two original fountains. The square is formed by Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, B. Vyshnevetsky Street, and Kostiantyn Miroshnychenko Street.
