The church in Letychivka, Uman District of Cherkasy region, was founded in 1746 and dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Virgin – the patroness of the Cossacks. It was built by a local landowner whose name has not survived. The first wooden church stood for more than a century. In 1880, a new, larger one was built on the same site. The temple was closed by the Soviet authorities in 1937, reopened during the German occupation, and closed again in 1960 under Khrushchev’s order. According to local stories, when the authorities came to dismantle the church, a villager named Smereka climbed the bell tower and refused to let them do it. People say his protest stopped the demolition. This story has become a local legend.

In the 1980s, the church was restored, and in 1989 it was reopened for services thanks to the efforts of the parish and its priest, Father Dmytro Liubkivskyi. In 1991, the church was consecrated by Metropolitan Filaret (Denysenko) of Kyiv and All Ukraine. Today, the church is active and open to visitors. It is a traditional wooden building painted light blue, typical of Ukrainian rural churches. Letychivka has been known since the 16th century. For a long time, it was part of the Monastyryshche District, but since 1997 it has been a separate administrative unit. The Intercession Church remains the main architectural and spiritual landmark of the village.
