About the Doctor’s House (Zemstvo Hospital Building)

The Doctor’s House, also known as the Zemstvo Hospital, is the last remaining wooden building in Ukraine designed by the renowned architect Vladyslav Horodetskyi. The structure is located in the village of Moshny and is one of its key architectural landmarks. In the 19th century, Moshny was owned by the noble landowner Mykola Balashov. The wooden Zemstvo hospital building was constructed in 1894 by Horodetskyi, who frequently stayed at the Balashov estate and completed various architectural commissions for the family.

The estate is also known as the Doctor’s House. It is a small wooden structure, and today only one wing remains. This surviving part is richly decorated with traditional wood carving and intricate ornamental elements that reflect the era’s interior style. Originally, the facility included ten-bed wards, a reception area, a doctor’s office, a pharmacy, and a kitchen. Although only one building remains, the Doctor’s House continues to attract visitors for its historical charm and the unique atmosphere it preserves.
