The Cherkasy water tower is one of the first hyperboloid structures designed by engineer Vladimir Shukhov, built in 1914 when the city used underground water sources for its supply. At the time, the tower functioned as a water reservoir, delivering water to buildings up to 30 meters high. In December 1944, during World War II, the retreating German army destroyed the structure. After the war, a decision was made to rebuild this unique construction. It was fully restored in 1949. In 1975, the city switched to water supply from the Dnipro River and the tower was decommissioned.

Today, the Cherkasy water tower is a unique architectural structure: out of more than 200 hyperboloid towers built by Vladimir Shukhov, fewer than 20 remain worldwide. While the tower no longer serves its original technical purpose, it is preserved as a site of historical and architectural heritage. It attracts tourists, researchers, and engineers as a rare example of early 20th-century structural innovation.
