The Basilian Monastery is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the city of Uman. It was founded in 1765 with the support of Franciszek Salezy Potocki, the Voivode of Kyiv. A six-grade school was established here in 1766, becoming an important center of education in the region. The underground chambers of the monastery remain shrouded in mystery. These subterranean passages hold many secrets connected to the lives of the Greek Catholic (Uniate) monks who lived and served here in the 18th century.

Today, visitors can take part in the guided tour „Through the Mysterious Underground of the Basilian Monastery“, where a monk welcomes them at the entrance and leads them through the dim corridors, sharing stories from the monastic past. The monastery is part of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve „Old Uman“ and remains a significant monument of Uman’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
