
About Taras’s Poplars
Taras’s Poplars is a complex natural monument of local significance located in the village of Budiще, within the territory of the Lysyanka Forestry. Three ancient white poplars (Populus alba) are protected here; their age exceeds 140 –170 years, and their shared root system is over 300 years old. The trees are situated on the shore of a lake with a spring.
The young Taras Shevchenko once searched here for an art teacher, and the surrounding landscape may have inspired some of his poetic works. A spring flows between the ancient trees, and according to local legend, it inspired Shevchenko to write the poem „The water flows from under the poplar.“
